Powder Coating Durability

Powder coating is a dry coating method distinguished from traditional liquid paints. Instead of applying a wet substance, powder coating relies on the application of electrically charged powder particles, subsequently cured through convection heat or UV light. This versatile technique encompasses both thermoplastic and thermoset powders, culminating in an exceptionally robust finish, surpassing the durability of automotive paint.

The primary domain of powder coating application is metal surfaces, extending its usage to diverse items such as household appliances, aluminum windows and doors, brake caliper hardware, automobiles, motorcycles, and pool furniture.

The merits of powder coating are manifold:

  1. Environmental Friendliness: Unlike liquid paints, powder coating avoids the use of solvents and volatile organic compounds, preventing harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

  2. Enhanced Quality: Powder-coated materials exhibit fewer production defects in comparison to their liquid-painted counterparts, ensuring a high-quality finish.

  3. Versatile Aesthetics: Powder coating offers a wide array of finishes, including textured, hammer tone, wrinkled, flat, satin, and high gloss, catering to diverse aesthetic preferences.

  4. Efficiency: Powder coating is quicker to deploy compared to liquid paints, streamlining the coating process.

  5. Longevity: The durability of powder coating is impressive, with a potential lifespan of up to 15-20 years, in contrast to the relatively shorter lifespan of liquid paints, which typically struggle to endure beyond 5 years.

Powder Coating Process

  1. We initiate the cleaning process, selecting either alkaline cleaning or hot degreasing, depending on the specific metal type you intend to coat.

  2. Following the initial cleaning step, we thoroughly rinse the metal substrate with clean water.

  3. To enhance protection against oxidation and achieve stronger adhesion, we perform a phosphating procedure.

  4. Next, we carry out out-gassing, involving heating the part to a high temperature to eliminate impurities.

  5. For steel and outdoor items, we apply a primer during the powder coating process.

  6. Our extensive color selection allows customers to choose from over 13,000 colors for the final powder coating layer.

  7. We complete the process with curing, which can be achieved through either infrared convection or electric convection methods.

Drying and Curing:

The drying and curing stages in powder coating demand a substantial amount of energy. Typically, we use electric or gas convection ovens for these purposes.
